No-Gi Event Attire Guide

For those unfamiliar with no-gi jiu-jitsu training, athletic attire (sweatpants, warm-ups, shorts, t-shirts, compression shorts/shirts, etc.) is strongly preferred. Please be mindful of the following guidance that applies during training.

Tops

  • We recommend wearing rash guards, compression shirts, or T-shirts.
  • Tank tops are prohibited. Sleeves must be worn and should cover at least the upper portion of the arm.
  • Crop tops are prohibited. The top MUST fully cover the torso, from the neck to the waistline.
  • V-neck and plunging necklines are prohibited. The top MUST fully cover the chest.

This standard applies to both men and women.

Bottoms

  • We recommend a combination of shorts and spats/yoga pants. If wearing spats or yoga pants, you must wear shorts over them. Spats can be purchased at Amazon for $10-$20.
  • Shorts alone are also appropriate; however, the groin area must remain fully covered while lying on your back. We recommend wearing mid-thigh briefs, spats, or yoga pants beneath the shorts.

Shoes

Shoes are prohibited on the mat. Students will train barefoot on a clean mat. As such, most students prefer to wear flip-flops or sandals to/from the training venue, as they are quick and easy to put on and take off.
